Environment Information
At Rill Architects we run ArchiCAD on macOS. If you work at Rill, this is your stuff. If you don't, but you work in ArchiCAD, you may find something interesting. Anybody else, I don't know.

What happens when the existing drawings are done.

The basic idea is to keep the existing conditions, both the PLN and the layout book, tucked away safely. It is theoretically possible to get existing drawings out of the addition project, but it's more trouble than it's worth.

The project file in Archicad.

Save the 'Existing Somebody.PLN' file. (It's easy to forget to save before saving as. This results in lost work!)

Save as 'Somebody Addition.PLN'. Place this file at the top of the project folder.

Leave the 'Existing Somebody.PLN' in the '4 Site & Existing Conditions' folder.

In the 'Somebody Addition.PLN', you can delete the existing-related layer combinations, or rename them so they're not at the top. These are:
! Ex1 Existing Plan
! Ex2 Existing Elev
! Working Existing Model
! Working Existing Plan

As you begin to work on the addition, make sure you are in the working plan and section/elevation layer combinations. The demo layers will be locked, which will remind you to switch the default layers for the tools.

You may also get rid of the existing view sets, 'Existing Drawings' and '! Working Existing'.

The layout book in PlotMaker.

Save the 'Existing Somebody.lbk' file. Save as 'Somebody Addition [Size].lbk'. ('Size' will be C, D, or E.) Save this book at the top of the project folder.

In the new book, in Tree by Subsets, rename the 'Existing Drawings' folder to 'Demo'. Move this folder so it's after the '!T1' folder. Tip: You might have to collapse (close) the subset folders to do this.

Inside the demo folder, delete the '!T1 Title Existing' folder. Delete the unneeded plans. Move the plans up one 'level', into the demo folder. Delete the empty plan folder. Demo elevations are typically not needed, so you can delete that folder too.

In Drawing Usage, link the plans to the demo plans in the project file.

The demo sheets should number themselves with D1, D2, etc.
